New Madhesi Political Alliance likely today:-
Kantipur Report
KATHMANDU, Feb 9 - Three major agitating Madhesi parties have agreed to form a joint front to launch an effective movement in the tarai, a senior Madhesi leader said.
"Sadbhavana Party, Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party and Madhesi People's Rights Forum have agreed in principle to form an alliance," said Anil Jha, general secretary of Sadbhavana Party (SP).
He said Sadbhavana Party, Tarai Madhes Democratic party and Madhesi People's Rights Forum are busy finalizing the agreement and a formal announcement of the front is likely by Saturday. "Only some technical aspects of the agreement are to
be finalized now," he said. The front will be called "United Madhesi Democratic Front", a leader of TMDP told the Post.
According to the leader, the parties have agreed to rearrange their demands into six points and exert collective pressure on the government to fulfill the demands. "We still hope that we will be able to achieve desired success whether we fight for the Madhesi cause at the negotiating table or on the street," the leader said.
He also claimed that the Front would represent the authentic voice of the Madhesi people even if it sits for talks with the government and holds the capacity to enforce agreements.
Two of the parties, SP and MPRF, already have an alliance called United Madhesi Front. They claim the Front will be stronger once Mahantha Thakur-led TMDP joins the alliance.
