Title: Dangerous Madhesi Indian party for Nepal future

Madhesi leaders claim Indian delegation has supported their demands:-

Leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front, which is an alliance of three agitating Madhesi parties, have claimed that the visiting Indian leaders have expressed support to their demands.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with the four-member delegation of India’s ruling Congress (I) at the five-star Yak and Yeti Hotel Wednesday afternoon, Mahantha Thakur, a leader of the Front and chairman of the Terai Madhesh Loktrantrik Party, said "in no way India would differ on our demands while the entire world is supporting them”.

Similarly, Sadbhawana Party chairman Rajendra Mahato claimed that the Congress (I) leaders described the six demands floated by the Front as valid. He even accused the seven-party government of trying to disrupt the constituent assembly polls by not listening to the demands of Madhesi people.

However, the Indian leaders preferred not to confront the media after the meeting.

The Font has put forth six demands that include guarantee of an 'autonomous Terai state' with right to self-determination and proportional representation of Madhesis, Janajatis, Dalits and other marginalised groups in state organs including the Nepal Army.

The Front called an indefinite bandh (shutdown strike) in Terai starting today. Reports said the bandh has badly hit normal life across Terai with marketplaces, industries, educational institutions and transport services remaining closed.

JTMM-Jwala bombs election office western

Date Saturday, February 16th 2008, 2:55 PM

JTMM-Jwala bombs election office in Banke:-

Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (Jwala Singh) detonated a “pressure cooker” bomb at the District Election Office of Banke, mid-western Nepal, early Friday morning, injuring two persons.

This is a first time the rag-tag group of armed men which is involved in low intensity terrorist activities like killings, abductions and extortions in Terai bombed an election office there.

Reports said the explosion occurred inside a residential building of the election office in Nepalgunj at around 4:30 am.

A computer, election materials and furniture were also damaged in the blast. The blast also partially damaged a room, but nobody was injured.

Organising a press conference in Nepalgunj hours after the incident, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhoj Raj Pokharel termed the bombing of the election office as a “dastardly act” and requested the government to make the security arrangement strong so that these kinds of incidents don’t recur in the future.

Meanwhile, the group also abducted a Rural Health Worker from Siraha district last night.

Rajeshwor Prasad Sah, who works at the health post situated in Bishnupur VDC, was abducted by cadres of JTMM-J yesterday night.

Of late, JTMM-Jwala and JTMM-Goit have intensified targeted killings and abduction of government officials in Terai districts. nepalnews.com mk/ag Feb 14 08

Thakur says no agreement with Nepal government

Date Saturday, February 16th 2008, 2:53 PM

Thakur says no agreement yet with the PM:-

Mahantha Thakur, chief of the Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) has said that there has not been any agreement with the Prime Minister during his meeting with the PM on Friday.

"He just listened to us. He has not met any demand. He has not made any assurance yet," Thakur told reporters following his meeting with the prime minister.

Thakur refused to elaborate about his talks with the PM saying, "The PM has told me not to go to the press yet. So I cannot tell you anything more," he said.

The meeting had come a day after senior leaders of Indian ruling Congress party had revealed that PM Koirala is ready to meet all demands of the Maoists. "He said he will not meet only two demands - UN intervention and compromising on nation's security. He is ready to fulfill all other demands," Digvijaya Singh, leader of the Indian delegation had told reporters on Thursday just before they wrapped up three-day visit to Nepal and returned home. nepalnews.com sd Feb 15 08
