Title: Drugs destroy communities....

If you want to destroy a community or country supply and spread drugs to youth of the communities.

Sadly,Indigenous peoples all over the world have been the easy prey and victims.Look at native American indians,Aborigines of Australia, north Burmese tribes(who are very very similar to Kiratis),tribes in North-east India and Kiratis in Nepal.

If we do not save our young ones from this horrible thing it will destroy our communities.

Everyone of us must make our children aware about this right from the pre-school age. Also,we need more Rehabilitation centres ,Government and NGO organisations working in this area. ...

I agree

Money can be source of evil or destruction if not used with responsibility and wisdom. When children get money, and their fathers are far away i.e. nobody to guide or discipline them-they can be misled, exploited and easily get into drugs.

Be proactive, teach children about drugs' dangerousness at very early age before they become victims.

its a big problems everywhere

Date Tuesday, March 11th 2008, 2:26 AM

no one can object that drugs is one of the major problmes in the world and in our kirati communtiy its one of the basic factor that is settin us behind.
most of our younger generation are either way involved in drug abuse. though many efforts has been done but the result is very low. mostlly in the lahure families its a headaching part. somehow our parents are also guilty of this situation. we give too much money for pocket money. they dont know wer their childern are using that money for. if they ask to get something instead of going with them and geting it urself we just give them money which is used in drugs mostly.
its a great socail problems and once someone get in it its mostly impossible to get him or her rid of that world.
the only soulution for them is to aware them of the results of drug abuse from the very begining and parents shouuld give more time to thier children.

Lots of issues, what about ours society?

Date Monday, March 10th 2008, 12:55 AM

In my thought the reason that our young ones are indulged into drugs is the excessive amount of freedom that the parents gave to their young ones regarding the money they spend. I am sorry to say but this has been a pattern in the Lahure family. The reason behind is that FATHER will be always in duty in far land and mother will have less knowledge about her siblings. This will push their children to have a different circle of friends and ultimately to the drugs. We have to accept this fact that the excessive expense of the Lahure parents on their children is one of the reasons. The middleclass family children thein tries to copy them and get involved. This is the bad thing that I view in the Lahure culture irrespective of their job as professional army.
So this sector needs to be checked. The parents should not only give extravagent facility to their children but be with them understand them and act accordingly before it is too late which is one of the most critical situation still in the Lahure family.
For the middle class young ones they should hvae proper guidence through their parents and elders. If you are a drinker or a smoker you can not lecture young ones not to take that so that culture should be abondoned by the elders also who think that they have cultural rights to drink.
We should not ask for any kind of excuse to drink. The young ones should understand the proper value of the money they are spending for any purpose. They should be encouraged to earn by themshelves so that they will know the value of 1 Rs which will eventually help them to know the rights and wrongs of their doings.
It is present not only in our society. It is present in any society but our people feel shy and afraid to say that their sons/daughters are addict. They have to be treated in the rehabitation centers so that they again can be the good citizen of this society and make their living. So this sector needs to be taken care too.

As Priti ji said I am quite unsure lack of education will involve people into drugs. In kathmandu you can see cigrates, drinks , gajas and tablets being taken by the school and college students. When you walk in the moring in every tea shop you can see a boy with college dress and smoking. About girls it is more dangerous problem. They have started smoking in public places like restaurents and colleges. These educated people are involved in the drugs, dance bars, prostitution and every bad thing that is in kathmandu now. So I think it is not the education but the type of education they are getting and the environment they are living are making them addicted towards drugs.
The names of big college comes in front when we explore the students ID so this is not about educated or uneducated it is about the awareness which is lacking in the young generation of all the society .

Thanks

'Drug abuse and trafficking has increased in South Asia'

Vienna-based International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) has said drugs like cannabis and heroin are being increasingly trafficked and abused in South Asia.

In its annual report 2007, INCB said cross-border smuggling is relatively easy due to the porous borders between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal.

The report further said that illicit cultivation and abuse of cannabis continue to be a problem in most of the countries in South Asia, adding that licitly manufactured pharmaceutical preparations such as codeine-based syrups, benzodiazepines and buprenorphine are smuggled from India into Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The report also said that injection of heroin and pharmaceutical preparations is contributing to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the region.

Injecting drug abuse rose from 8 per cent in 2003 to 29 per cent in 2006 and three-quarters of imprisoned drug offenders are drug abusers. The Board notes with concern that adequate data on drug abuse is not available in Nepal and Bhutan.

It called on governments to apply the law proportionately when prosecuting drug offenders, as not doing so could undermine efforts to effectively implement the very conventions that these laws seek to enforce. nepalnews.com ia Mar 07 08
