During last years incident in the Terai (2007),there were some communal clashes between Madhesi and Pahadis.The word Pahadi means anyone from the hills so in a sense this makes "Bahuns and Janjatis" in the same racial group in the eyes of the Madhesi.To add to this confusion Bahuns and Janjatis see themselves as different racial groups but still both consider each other to be a Nepali.Most Bahuns never question a Janjati as a non Nepali and vice versa but both Janjati and Bahuns are guilty of labeling Madhesis as Indians or even worse "a doti".

Even within the Janjati community we have Gurungs,Tamangs,Kirats......ect.This further complicates who we are.

So in a strange way this might be the thinking among the various Nepali groups.


Madhesi might say: " Bahuns and Janjatis are both Pahadis so they are of the same racial group".


Janjatis and Bahuns might say :"we are of different racial group but we regard each other as Nepali.Most of us consider Madhesi to be indians and even tease them by calling them "dotis".


Janjatis might say : "I might be a Janjati,but i am also a Magar.Most of us Janjati are united by a common fact that we have flat nose and east Asian looks."


This begs the question of our status and identity as Kirats.Sure we are Nepali,but some times we can be in the same racial group as Bahuns.This is very strange in deed.
