Hi Menuka,u commented on my profile and i wil quote it "I am not sure about your expertise in American History. I have simple question to you... Why Civil War happend in North America?" unquote. First of all Menuka, the answer is not simple cause there were many factors apart from slavery.Just to name a few factors they were: 1)Economic:The North was more industrialized than the South.The South depended heavily on agriculture for its annual GDP output.As such,the South depended heavily on slaves as compared to the North. 2)Cultural and political differences: Northerners tend to be more liberal while southerners are more conservative.This is still the case even today. 3)Control of the Executive and Legislative branch When California was admitted in 1850 in the USA as the 31st state,it was a non slaver state.This further weakened the Southerners hold of the Legislative branch. The election of Abraham,who had a anti-slavery manifesto as President was the final nail in the coffin.Now the Executive branch was also controlled by anti-slavery groups. Having lost both the Executive and Legislative branch of the government,the South feared that laws would be passed to end slavery. The alternative was secession from the US,which they did in 1860 to form the Confederate States of America.As the US would not let them go,the civil war hence started. well Menuka, I hope my lesson on the civil war was informative :-)
