that worries me the most

Date Wednesday, January 31st 2007, 7:21 PM Icon 220 Date 1

being 21 years old and representor of this young generation that has immense responibilities and obligations to take care of i realized that this generation is in the verge of loosing our whole culture, traditions and other practises that has given us distinct and unique identity in this global society. the traditions and financial compulsion of our grandfather and father that led them to join the gurkhas made a huge negative impact in our traditional practises. since thier youth was spent fighting in various regions of the world. but that really created the opportunity for coming generation to exploit in terms of education and increasing thier living standard level. first it was hinduism influence and oppressing policy of then rulers. and now its western culture that is engulfing us so fast. celebrating our culture has just become mere a formality once in a year in ubhauli n udhauli. even where the intention are just to flirt with young gals n guys. one very reason could b of our liberal nature which most kiratis r. we don't hav conservative thinkings. that is very good but forgetting wats our own, our history, our dignity and identity is wat worries me. if this continues then the next generation that is ready to pop out would be just a rai, limbu, yakha or sunuwar by last name which carries no meaning at all or just like western peoples surname which is good for using only as last name, nothing more. but i am clueless how should we ratify that mistakes, n a blame game isn't the solution cause we r just a victim ourselves. i wonder when will forigner identify us as ' rai, limbu yakha or sunuwar or kiratis' rather than chinses, jap, korean or some south east asian.

( just a personnel view not trying to justify anything, if offended i m terribly sorry, n thanks to yalamber bro for creating such a great website, we needed one u did it good job bro)

that worries me the most

well-written Ashesh bro...I share the same sentiments as you. Our culture in general has regretfully taken set-backs after ceding our freedom to calculative invaders. However I feel our elders have done their upmost to preserve our traditions under oppressive circumstances. As someone said in one of the earlier blogs that it is up to us to revive our dying customs. I feel that we should take strength from our ancestors struggles and bring forward what they have started. For one, we should take heart that we still have a language 2 speak and write of, we have our own cultural organisations and festivals to celebrate. In this age, despite the numerous distractions and the globalisation impact on our culture, we should adapt and use those elements positivel to strive ahead what we hold on to.

Oh man..juz wanted to acknowledge your blog article...but it seems that I've gone on to write up a short article myself...:-)
Aite bro...let's thrive on the acrimonies that our elders were objected to...and it's impact on culture positively
